I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t care for 3D movies, TV, games, whatever.

i think that happened to me once…
Did your eyes end up falling out?
Lion King in 3D was amazing. I’m definitely passing on Beauty & the Beast, tho.
And also, I’m really liking how you’re tweaking the art for the book.
Thanks! I’m hoping people will appreciate the extra effort in the book + it’s a selling point cos I’ll only be releasing the updates in the book.. its like a “remastered” version.
I Considered going to see that.. but more just to rewatch it in the theatre again.. rather than the 3D experience.
It was awesome. The opening and battle scenes were probably the best scenes. Zazu, when he’s flying up to see Simba, looked like he was going to literally fly through the top of the screen. They’ve actually done a lot to better the theater 3D, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who wears glasses. My eyes were really sore afterward and it was probably because of that. I haven’t seen anyone with a TV and glasses, tho, since they’re not very accessible in my area.
I wear glasses.. but if I know I’m gonna see a 3D film i try to remember to wear my contact…. (i’ve forgotten them and it sucked)
I’m with you, 3D is silly.. i dont care about 3D until that means Holodeck..
What’s “Holodeck”?
The room on Star Trek that creates hyper realistic simulations that you can walk in and even interact with the “people” inside. Here’s a clip to give you an idea. If it was real, I’d get to live out every geeky stupid fantasy I’ve ever had, and probably die of malnutrition due to never leaving it.
Oh man… now I want a Holodeck! lol
3D TVs are something people get just to have them. Should you have a social setting (god help us all if I should ever entertain people), who’s going to have enough glasses to watch a movie as a group? But that being said, Joseph looks awesome in that last panel. That looks about right…
My friend has one cos he works in the film industry and just loves movies. He apparently uses it quite a bit (at least when ever he buys a new 3D Bluray) even with out the social setting… at least he likes just to like it and not because he wants to show it off.Apparently his two 3D glasses costed him something like 90’s so for a social setting.. you’d HAVE to be rich to have more than two! lol
haha, thanks! :]
Fad my ass. Herp They’r releasing the Star Wars saga in 3D, probably with even more changes! Derp. This is gong to solidify 3D’s place in cinema. Herp Derp.In all seriousness though, there’s only one thing I want/ could stand to see in 3D anymore; Woody Harrelson reprising his role as Tallahassee in Zombieland 2, and going ape shit with a chainsaw. I”m not sure if it will ever happen, but that possibility is sharing a special place in my heart, along with the possibility of another Doctor Horrible and that Nathan Fillion may get enough support to get the Firefly web series up and running.
A man child can dream.
Are they really making a 3D Starwars?Man, I’d love for there to be a Zombieland 2… still, idk about 3D though, it’s not really need for a film like that.
They’re converting and re-releasing the whole saga in 3D, starting with Phantom Menace. And 3D for Zombieland 2 would be needless, but the best indulgences in life often are needless.
“best indulgences in life often are needless.” word.I’m so sick of George Lucas never creating anything new… we’ve seen you fucking movies man, we get it. They were good.
It was rumored for a time that he planed to make Episode 7-9, based after return of the jedi obviously, but the prequel trilogy pretty, much killed that. And now even though he has literally hundreds of spin-offs, he just keeps going back for some reason. It’s a damn shame.
I’d be curious to see the last 3. I knew he had written something like 9 of them and decided that the studio decided he should start with 4-6 when he first launched the serious because they felt it was the strongest point or something… but, he’s a milker… he’ll milk the fuck out of these 6 until hes about 70yrs old, then he’ll start production on the last three and die in the middle of it… just so people talk about how amazing that could have been.
He just did Red Tails, and spent 23 years trying to get it done.Just saying.
He was a only an Executive Producer on that film, meaning mainly what he dealt with was insuring that production happened, different legal matters, money coming in, etc. Which means he was not involved in any technical aspects of the film making itself. Actors can even do that. :P
Except for the fact that it was his baby project, even if his neck stopped him from directing it. It was his brain child from the start.
man is that the truth i hate 3D glasses they are just terrible and makes me want to punch The Situation from Jersey shore in the face even though i would get my ass kickedP.S. the changes are cool but you made her look like a mexican,
So, you wouldn’t normally want to punch The Situation from Jersey Shore in the face?
What about Snookie? Would you punch Snookie?
I think she was on Wrestlemania or something.. I at least hope someone did.
friends dont let friends go to New Jersey so you can count on a bitch fight breaking out every five minutes over there so its a statistical probability that assures she has been punched in the face
lol, nice.
And by “adjust” I mean “break.”
Exactly.
we had a discussion about 3d in one of my college classes once, because we took a field trip to see avatar. one of the things we talked about was netflix and how people dont go to the movies as often because they can get a movie and watch it without even leaving their couch. my teacher said (i dont know if this was a theory or if he looked it up, but it makes sense) that 3d was a way to bring people back to the movie theaters because it offered something you couldnt get at home. its also kinda the same thing with imax. but now, with the release of 3d tvs, they might have to think of a new idea.i personally dont like 3d movies because my brain doesnt fall for the illusion. if something jumps off the screen, i dont jump. and it annoys me if something is coming off the screen, but then it goes to the edge and half of it is cut off. the only 3d thing ive seen that i enjoyed was a led wall that i saw at a convention, and it required just some cheep glasses, that im pretty sure were make out of cardboard. it was the only 3d thing that was exciting for me to watch. the only bad thing was i was too close and it looked pixelated.
My hope is that directors will fuck off with the “things coming off the screen” and just focus on the idea of creating depth. You know, like the screen is a window into the world of the film. Follow your magic window around and see all the action as if you were people watching. As cynical of a guy as I am, I tend to be cautiously optimistic with new technologies. I think the key is that I remember to separate my wallet from the discussion on the topic.
I agree with you. I wouldn’t mind it as much if it was more about the depth. It tends to annoy the hell out of me when you see things get cut off at the bottom of the screen, like rain or animals or whatever it is.
Your teacher had a good point, as far as the marketing stand point for the theatres I’m sure that was taken into consideration… but when you have mixed industries all trying to make money, the home related stuff will always win. I mean, why else would online shopping be killing retail business? Cos we’re like trendy vampires now and don’t like going out side anymore.
Wait till you play a video game in 3d. I promise you that you’ll reconsider. We’ve been needlessly playing games that are made in 3d on a 2d screen for a decade and a half.I work in home theater, and I can tell you that 3d is growing. It’s growing slowly, but it’s growing. Don’t expect it to go away. The old people come and tell me that they thought 3d was a fad in the fifties when they saw their first 3d movies.
Think about it, D. Film has largely existed as an extension of our imaginations for a good long time. 3d is the next logical step to bring it fully together.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m skeptical when it comes to film… I’m a huge purist and it just seems the last nail in the coffin of true film and the full progression into digital. I’m just torn, because video games in 3d are just so damn good.
Now, before you quote the 3ds as video games in 3d, the first mistake of the console was to go glasses free. That shit is not ready for the big time. What I’ve played was a PS3 on a 3d plasma at work – and I heard that the next Xbox is going to be FullHD 3d.
/Excited to play Forza 5 on a launch day 3d capable Xbox.
I think for me, more than anything, I just DON’T WANT 3D to succeed. I don’t understand why people care for it. I mean, I get virtual reality and such.. and if 3D is a stepping stone to get there, then more power to it… but 3D for what it is and what people want it to be, I hate.I played a 3D game at my friends house… which is actually why I wrote this joke… i felt like it wasn’t refreshing fast enough and my eyes started hurting. At least with a movie it’s smooth because it was produced with one reaction.. but when you add the element of a video game where you’re free to walk around, you can’t plan every pose. …idk if that makes sense?
The issue with 3d video games right now is just horsepower. The next crop of consoles will be able to tackle it handily. The best 3d gaming experience I had was Gran Turismo. Seriously, try driving with one eye covered for about half an hour; then, uncover it. You’ll notice quite obviously how much easier it is to judge traffic, corners, and stopping distance.
Here’s the thing: I can think of many reasons why 3d is, even if just philosophically, a bombshell to how we make movies. It completely changes the texture of a shot. When film was new, it took forever to utilize it; when television was new, it took forever to utilize it; and when HD was new, it took forever to utilize it. 3d is just gestating as a realistic long-term goal right now. In time, it will be used as a new storytelling tool instead of an expensive effect. Remember, at one time audio was scary in movies.
What I can’t think of (as antithesis) is any really good reason why it shouldn’t exist. It has no ability but to enhance when properly used (like HD a few years back). It’s scary, it’s new, and it’s unproven – it’s just that nothing about it is technically bad. It’s just the difference between bad tech, and bad usage (Michael Bay and anybody’s money/internationally renowned toy property); amiright?
Like you, and many of the other commenters, I too dislike the whole 3D thing. I think my biggest issue, is the fact that it still makes your eyes hurt after it being out for how long now? Brittany, mentioned not liking it because of not falling for the illusion. It usually doesn’t take much effort for me to see something as being 3D, but I agree on the point of things flying off the side of the screen. That usually ruins the effect for me. Not too mention, a lot of 3D movies just end up looking like paper cut outs moving about anyhow. On Tucker’s comment about the 3D games, I don’t know. I’ve never played them, and have been really hesitant to do so. I’m just not big on the whole 3D thing; not to mention I’d have to buy new hardware. However, I agree that it’s only the logical next step for media. Just in movies, you had the original advent of movies in the first place. Then the added more frames to make them smoother, then sound, and color. It’s only going to progress from here, but I do think it needs some work still. On a side note, after seeing so many different emoticons, and what with being a guy and all, I look at the 3D thing and think, “Oh, a topless chick in granny panties.”
For me anything that takes me away from the film, bothers me. There’s tons of “neat things” they are doing right now… like on TVs that fill in frames to make things feel more life like… but even that distracts me because it doesn’t FEEL like a movie anymore.. it feels like something that’s trying to be a bit more than what it was supposed to be. It’s just like… would I really want a 3D Comic? …do we NEED motion comics? Not really, we just seem to want to invent things for the sake of inventing and trying new things.
I have no idea what you’re talking about on the tv’s fillin in frames. As far as “motion comics” go, there are some out there. Comics that have moving bits in some of the panels and, sometimes, even sound effects. I don’t necessarily think that it takes away from the comic, but I don’t really feel that it adds to it in any way. However, I think inventing things for the sake of inventing and trying new things is a good thing. In this case, it can lead to new forms of media. With the 3D movies, it may eventually lead to some sort of holodeck thing.
He’s talking about 120hz LCD televisions. They fill in new frames between the old frames to reduce motion judder – but really what they’re doing is trying to make up for the ghosting on LCD.
I guess its called “Motion Enhancement” or “Motion Interpolation. My dad’s TV has it.. and it really bothers my eyes BADLY. I guess film traditionally can only capture a set amount of frames.. this films in frames that don’t exist to try to make it FEEL more fluid.. but its not.. how could it be? THE FRAME DIDN’T EXIST! ><I tried to find an example of the type of motion comic that bothers me… but I couldn't. I actually found a really nice one of Watchmen though. It’s just sort of a sort of choppy looking animation that basically is moving the elements of a comic around rather than drawing the frames out fully. Idk, guess its personal preference.
